Christmas Countdown

Christmas is coming.

It hit me today that we are already one week into December. Time is a blur. Thanksgiving was ages ago. It also just happened.

I can barely keep up.

Christmas shopping. Holiday sales. Business. Reaching out to family.

There’s more and more… and more.

In my life, there are also my small businesses. “Side hustles,” if you will. This is directly related to the holidays since I sell a lot of Christmas ornaments.

I’ve never been a hater of January.

I know some people see it as sad. As a blue, dull, or boring month. Not much happens; it’s quiet, and everyone is still reeling from the holidays.

To me, January feels like getting home from work. Feeling the tension from the day melt away. Somewhere comfortable. No impending deadlines. I need a moment to sit back and say, “Where am I? What have I accomplished? What do I do next?”

Asking these questions without the urgency of the holidays is nice. Therapeutic even.

I am excited to sit back and enjoy the first whole month of winter.

In the meantime, I am trying to “embrace the season” and focus on keeping my head held high.

I’ve realized that I need to focus on recovery. Recovery from exercise, from stress, from work, or from projects. I jump from activity to activity without pausing in between. I don’t take the time to reflect; I just keep moving.

Over the next few weeks, I am going to try to look back.
